Homemade Juice!

Lately, I've started making my own juices, and it's SO much fun! I don't have a juicer, but I saw this video that explains how to make juice with a blender using a nut milk bag. So, I ordered the one I linked to and started making my own juices. I don't go by recipes; I just buy a bunch of organic produce and add what I think would be good.

Here's the one I made tonight. It has grapes, cilantro, grapefruit, water, and a small amount of kale (which I bought for the first time and tried steaming but I discovered I don't like it, so now I'm adding small amounts to my juice to make it even more healthy).

I do exactly what Natasha does in the video, storing it in glass jars, and then I have a glass every day or so. I'm hoping to get more servings of fruits and veggies, clear my acne, and maybe even have more energy. If it helps with my headaches, I'll let you all know, but I'm not expecting it to. But you never know.

On a different note, I'm sure you've all heard the big news about Botox being approved by the FDA for treatment of migraine. If you haven't, just google "Botox" and "migraine" and take your pick. Soon, insurance may start covering it, and then I might be tempted to give it a shot (bwahahaha).

You guys don't know what you are missing. Kale is amazing and it is the latest in a long list of "super foods". It isn't a green that you want to steam and eat because it can be a tad bitter but there are tons of amazing recipes using Kale,

Winny - Generally I'll add spinach, cucumber and/or celery to my juices to get that green veggie nutrition, and this time I gave kale a try. You can't taste it in the juice (since I only added two handfuls), which is fine with me!

B-rad W. - I'm always up for trying new recipes. I'll give one of the ones in the second link a try. Thanks!

Kale is fabulous! I want to try making kale chips, I hear they are great.

I was on a juicing kick for quite awhile...I need to get back to it! I often used cilantro and kale as well. Apple and carrot juice is yummy. Just dont drink too much...you'll turn orange. So not kidding either!

So awesome about the Botox. I've had 6 rounds. I think I need another. Not sure it really decreases my headaches...but keeps me wrinkle free and my insurance has covered it 100% since day one for my muscle spasms! Do it...you'll like it! Haha!

Jessica - ORANGE? Interesting...! I just bought some apples and carrots, so I'll give that a try. But I'll limit my portions. ;)

Thanks, Loomis.

Hey B-rad, I tried the recipe "Pan-Cooked Kale With Garlic and Olive Oil" and I have to admit, it was pretty tasty. :) Unfortunately, my husband is a picky eater and did not approve...

I started drinking green smoothies a while back - they are good with all the extra fiber in too (w/o straining). I've been adding in more raw foods to my diet and have seen a real decrease in headaches for me. There are tons of great recipes out there. If you need any direction please feel free to ask.

I didn't know you could make in a blender - don't have the money to buy a juicer. However, as a vegetarian I get a lot of fruit and veggies. And I try to mix different things that will help with headaches - the best I've done is get things from my acupuncturist like rice seed - which is very powdery when you consider that rice is small so seeds smaller - and they have high concentration of natural CoQ10 and Bs. Always better to get things naturally from foods than from supplements but I also do supplements. I might try this - but let me know if it helps your headaches - really curious about that one!

Jessica - that's SO awesome that an increase in raw foods resulted in a decrease in headaches for you!! I'm going to keep it up. Natasha from the video I linked to uses the pulp from the nut milk bag to make crackers. I thought about making homemade bread with the pulp but I don't know how it would taste, and plus then it wouldn't be raw. Do you have a website to recommend for recipes?

Elizabeth - you can bet I'll write a blog post if this ends up helping my headaches. I haven't heard of rice seed, but CoQ10 is on my list of things to try, so that's good to know!

I actually just made the mushroom, kale, and barley soup (the first recipe). It was straight up baller.

Heather,

Some of my favorite links to raw food websites and authors that I find to be accesible are below. I was a little worried about all of the tyramine and nuts but I think the increased health overall outweighs the triggers. Just a guess : )

The Sunny Raw Kitchen - I bought her ebook and some of the recipies are really fantastic. She is coming out with a new one that I am going to buy for sure:

The Raw Chef. A little more advanced - great eye candy:

Oh She Glows - not all raw but mostly vegan and healthy. She is very inspirational:

Ani Phyo has some great you tube tutorials - I have one of her cook books, too.

It is necessary to have as much fluids to flush out the toxins from the body. There are also bodies which create acidic juices when food is consumed...it is better to focus on alkaline foods then.

My insurance approved one round of botox for my migraines. My neuro learned the new method they are recommending and I got the shots 3 weeks ago. Other than a migraine 2 days after the treatment, I have been migraine free which is like a miracle. I've had days where I've had my pre-migraine symptoms and the head pain never comes. The only side effect I had was minor bruising on my forehead and the lack of wrinkles :) Very optimistic.

Ali,

That's wonderful news! I'm hoping to try Botox once my insurance approves it. I hope yours will continue to cover it since it's working! :)
